The Capitol Building

The beautiful Colorado State Capitol building is the nation’s only capitol building with a LEED® Gold certification. Read more about the certification.

Many organizations contribute to the ongoing work of the state capitol building’s upkeep. Partner organizations include the Colorado General Assembly, the Governor's Office, the Lieutenant Governor's Office, the Department of Personnel & Administration (including Colorado State Archives, the State Architect's Office and the Division of Central Services), History Colorado and several private partners.

Summer 2023 Tour Information

The Capitol is open Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm.  Free guided tours are available Monday-Friday on the hour between 10:00am-3:00pm.  In June and July ONLY, we are also offering 15 minute tours of the dome.  Please check in at the Visitor Information Desk for more information about dome tours. Capitol tours are limited to 30 people on a first come, first served basis.

Spring 2023 Tour Information

The Capitol building is open from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Free guided tours are available at 10am, 11am, 12pm, and 1pm, and are first come, first serve. Guided tours include a trip to the Dome observation deck. Guests are also welcome to self guide through the building as well, but please note, the dome is not accessible except on guided tours.

Holiday 2022 Closures

Happy Holidays!  Please note: on Friday, December 23, 2022, the Capitol will be open for self-guided tours only. Mr. Brown's Attic Museum and the dome observation area will be closed.   The Capitol will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022, and Monday, January 3, 2023.

Summer 2023

The Capitol is open Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm. All tours are free. The dome is accessible by stairs only.

Guided Tours

Capitol tours are limited to 30 people on a first come, first served basis.

The Capitol is closed on some holidays and may be closed due to adverse weather and other events.
